Laser Hair Removal - Palm Beach County

Hair removal by laser works because a very powerful light (energy) is focused on the hair follicle which heats the hair root and kills it. The energy travels through the skin which must be protected generally by a cooling tip on the laser. The best hair removal lasers are ones specifically designed for that task.

1.Does on tanned or different skin colors?
The LightSheer diode laser system safely and effectively treats most skin colors as well as . For darker skin types and people with tans, appropriate fluences are generally lower and appropriate pulse widths are generally longer to prevent damage to the epidermis. Using the appropriate treatment parameters, however, people with all skin types can benefit from . The laser does not work on very .

2. How long do the treatments take?
An upper lip and chin can be done in 5 minutes, underarms or bikini lines usually take 15 minutes. Legs and backs take longer. Very often, follow up treatments are shorter because there is much less hair to treat.

3. How many treatments are necessary?
This is very important to understand. Hair goes through 3 stages of development. It will only respond to the treatment in one stage called the 'anagen stage.' At any given time, only one third of human hair is in the anagen stage. For this reason, it is necessary to treat an area at least 6 times with the treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart in order to see the best and longest lasting results. Darker hair will respond better but both dark and light hair may need at least 5 treatments for maximum response and the best long term results.

4. When should I expect to see results?
There is often immediate change. Your skin may get slightly red or even develop a small crust that will peel. The laser may leave small red marks on your skin. The marks clear up in a few days. The hair that has been destroyed will not start to fall out for 2-3 weeks. Many times it will get darker and thicker just before it falls out. You will see an obvious change immediately after your first treatment. This procedure works. Stick with it.

5. Is it permanent?
Your expectations should be dramatic improvement. For some this may mean a significant decrease in the frequency with which you must shave or pluck. For others it may mean permanent cosmetic improvement because hair re-growth is minimal, very fine or completely absent. Everyone gets some re-growth with time regardless of the technology used. In all probability you will get permanent/long term decrease in the amount of hair. Hair that grows back will tend to be much finer and less concentrated.

6. How do I prepare for laser hair removal?
  • 1) It is necessary for you to have one to two day's growth so that the areas that require treatment are easily recognizable. If not, it may be difficult to pinpoint all areas needing treatment. Your technician will need to trim the hair to skin level with a razor or clippers if necessary.
  • 2) For hair removal on the face, please do not use (or make sure you wash off), all makeup prior to treatment.
  • 3) If you are currently on the medication Accutane or have been in the past six months, please let us know. This medication can make your skin more susceptible to damage from the laser.
  • 4) Generally, it is best to wait 4 to 6 weeks between treatments. There is no advantage to scheduling your visits closer together or even if you do not see immediate results. The laser only targets hair in the growth phase. The next growth phase will be 4 to 6 weeks.
  • 5) Avoid sun exposure or tanning for at least 5 days prior to treatment.
